Championship Game
B7 - New Boss, Same As... - Pushed to the brink, Klash-B keep B throne 5-2 over Lightning
Staving off the Lightning's relentless attack, the Klash scored thrice in two minutes middle third to defend their B League crown 5-2. This latest Klash B championship was their fourth in a row and a dynastic sixth in seven seasons.

In this championship run, the Klash was pushed to the brink. The Lightning had improbably marched from deep in the losers bracket. Fueled by two stirring comebacks, they entered the ultimate game with mojo in their blades. And when, once again, the Lighting rallied from down two, the elusive dream finally seemed inevitable. The hockey gods, however, said no. In a stunning two minute sequence, the Klash benefited from a Lightning own goal, a fluke backwall richotchet, and a seeing eye knuckleball to maintain their recent B League reign. Indispensible in this latest championship was B League MVP Ruben Santana. The veteran netminder summoned the spirit of glories past in repeatedly denying the Lightning's indefatigable offensive pressure. Santana yielded just 9 goals in four games while facing 132 shots, including 52 third period attempts in the three Lightning playoff matches.

C4 - Sky High - Flyers score late to snatch C title from Tremblays 2-1
Scoring with just 28 seconds remaining, the Flyers came from behind to beat Tremblays 2-1 and win the C League championshp. The Flyers, in their inaugural season, went wire-to-wire while losing just once in regulation.

After a scoreless first half in which each goalie made several stupendous stops, Tremblays broke through with 3 minutes left in the second on a Kevin Faraci putback. With the lead, Tremblays played defensive minded looking to limit mistakes and Flyer scoring chances. They continually frustrated the Flyers and seemed poised to finish. The Flyers needed an interventaion and they got it. With six minutes to goB League MVP Ed Svec sent a harmless pass that pinballed off a defender and somehow found its way into the net. Svec then clinched the game and championship with his last second playoff winner.

The Stingers briefly tied it before the Morkmen spurted for three more in the final five minutes to build an insurmoutable 5-2 lead heading into the third. E4 - Good as Gold - MFD staves off GNFD to win E1 title 4-3 in OT
Prevailing again in a tense overtime thriller, MFD repeled a determined GNFD comeback to claim the E1 championship 4-3 in sudden death. MFD's victory defended their previous fall E1 title and represents their second Long Island Cup.

Unlike the previous playoff game between these evenly matched rivals, MFD played from ahead. By the middle of the match, they built a three goal advantage only to see GNFD storm back to tie it a period later. Like the prior game, the later half of the third and overtime saw both teams trade sterling scoring chances, outstanding 'tender stops and overall edge-of-your-seat action. And, as was the case in the earlier match, the heroics were provided by E1 League MVP Chad Goldman. The burly defenseman, who had a hat trick and overtime winner in MFD's previous win, unleased a title winning blueline bomb that more went through the GNFD goalie than past him. During the playoffs, Goldman scored five times and deftly helmed MFD's defensive zone efforts.

3C5 - Survivor - Down to the nub, Effin Gruven outlasts Court Officers 2-1 for hard-fought 3C title
In the latest chapter of HLI's Hatfields and McCoys rivalry, Effin Gruven hung on for a well earned 3C championship 2-1 over a gritty Court Officers squad. This accomplishment is the Effin Gruven organization's first 3C, and second overall, Long Island Cup.

Heading into this decisive title match, each team had beaten the other in a closely contested game. Those two previous playoff games saw up-and-down, tit-for-tat, rough-and-tumble big boy action. In each game, the more composed team prevailed. In this final match-up, both teams came focused and played hard, aggressive, and unyielding.

Throughout the playoffs, amid the constant goalmouth disorder, both goalies stood tall and resolute. They each made numerous spectacular saves and remained locked-in despite the ongoing bumper car action crowding the center slots. Their superior play only heightened the importance of scoring first and, after a scoreless first, Gruven broke through with two second period goals. Ahead 2-0, 3C League MVP Dan Scorzelli cooly rebuffed the ensuing Court Officer onslaught. Scorzelli, who made 83 saves in three playoff games, only allowed one goal in the frenetic, chaotic third as the Court Officers controlled much of the late action in their desperate, futile effort to tie.
